Steam Vaporizer

Steam Vaporizer in Action

Vaporizers are the appliances that are used to increase the humidity or the water content of the air. Generally hot mist is used to make the air more moist or humid. These vaporizers are very useful in places where the air becomes extremely dry. Dry air can cause a lot of problems like dry lips, chapped skin, throat problems and even difficulty in breathing. In winter, the amount of static electricity increases as the air is dry and cannot conduct the charge. A vaporizer also helps to decrease the amount of static electricity in one’s home.

Vaporizers are available in various types and models. One of the types is the Steam Vaporizer.  The mechanism used in a steam vaporizer is that it creates the moisture by boiling the water into steam or hot mist.  Since a hot steam vaporizer boils the water, it kills and hence removes any bacteria, mold protein or fungus (that may accumulate in its water tank over time) and removes any cases of air borne or water borne diseases that they can cause. This is not the case in the cool mist vaporizer.

In winter generally people suffer from cold and flu which causes dehydration. The air is normally dry in this weather and the heating system which is used in most of the homes causes further drop of humidity in the air. The relative humidity in this case can drop down to as low as one-tenth which is surprisingly even lower than the relative humidity of the air the great Sahara Desert! The optimum value of the relative humidity which is comfortable in general is from 30% to 50%.

A Steam Vaporizer removes the problem of dry air and provides a number of benefits. It removes the dryness of the respiratory system and helps in fighting viruses, bacteria and other pollutants. It helps in relieving irritated, itching and dry eyes and skin. It combats scratchy throat and dry cough problems. It makes breathing easier and more comfortable and hence helps in relaxed sleeping. It also helps to stop damage to paintings, plants and furniture caused by dry air.

The hot steam vaporizers should be handled with care, especially in case of children. In any case, a hot steam vaporizer should be kept at least 4 feet away. Children should be kept further away as the hot steam can cause immediate burns.

Many of the models come with an inbuilt mechanism for checking the relative humidity of the air and the device shuts down automatically when a certain desired level is reached.

These are generally inexpensive and also consume less energy in operation. There are a lot of advantages of using a steam vaporizer which makes them a popular choice.
